Meet John Steinbeck, our talented DataVault Architect from Raleigh, North Carolina! With his expertise in business technologies and an unwavering passion for learning, John is an integral part of the 7Rivers team, driving innovation and success every step of the way.
Role at 7Rivers
As a DataVault Architect, John plays a key role in helping organizations transform their data systems. He works on the critical layer before data warehousing, mapping legacy queries into the DataVault system and building out information marts using automated tools. His focus is on enhancing how businesses manage and access their data, ensuring it is both efficient and reliable.
John believes working with his team challenges him to see things from different perspectives, which ultimately drives better solutions. One of his most memorable moments at 7Rivers was turning around a complex data request quickly, resulting in business users being excited about how much easier their tasks became.
Professional Journey
John’s professional journey has been driven by a desire to make data systems more effective and user-friendly. He started his career working in biologics, where he organized central reporting processes. Over time, his programming skills allowed him to automate tasks, but he realized he wanted to take things further. His curiosity led him to explore DataVault architecture, asking the question: How can we do this better?
One of John’s specialties is bridging the gap between IT and business users. He serves as a translator of sorts, taking complex data and presenting it in a way that meets business needs. His ability to speak both technical and business languages has made him a valuable resource for creating solutions that save time and reduce frustration.
John is currently working on his master’s degree in Library Sciences, focusing on semantic analysis, metadata architecture, and taxonomy. This fall, he’ll take an exciting next step by starting his Ph.D. in Ontology. Fueled by a passion for continuous learning and growth, John has some advice for those entering the field: prioritize doing things right over doing them fast. “THINK – is it True, Helpful, Inspiring, Necessary, and Kind?” And above all, he emphasizes the importance of truly listening to learn from others.
Personal Insights and Interests
Outside of work, John finds joy in spending time with his family as a proud father of six. His kids inspired him to join rugby on top of already being an active teammate of a dodgeball and kickball team. He also enjoys exploring the mountains of North Carolina, with favorite spots like Boone and the stunning Blowing Rock. Of all his travels, Saudi Arabia holds a special place as his favorite destination, a place he discovered during his time in the Air Force.
We’re lucky to have John on the team and can’t wait to see where his journey takes him next — including earning the title of Dr. Steinbeck in the near future!
