Meet The Team: Stephen Wiss

Stephen Wiss is an Associate Architect at 7Rivers. With a strong foundation in software engineering, DevOps, and large-scale data architecture, Stephen brings a practical, value-driven perspective to helping clients modernize their data infrastructure and turn technical transformation into measurable business outcomes.

Role at 7Rivers

As an Associate Architect, Stephen supports both pre-sales and post-sales engagements at 7Rivers. On the pre-sales side, he helps clients understand how modernizing their data infrastructure can unlock meaningful value. On the post-sales side, he helps deliver on that promise by turning strategy into real-world execution.

Stephen approaches collaboration with openness and a willingness to learn from those around him. He believes the best answer in the room is not always his own, and that strong teamwork comes from listening closely, recognizing great ideas, and moving forward together with purpose.

Some of Stephen’s most memorable team moments have come during live migrations and platform upgrades. These high-stakes efforts often require teams to give up weekends, work through challenges in real time, and rely on one another under pressure. For Stephen, those moments build a unique sense of camaraderie and reveal the strength, trust, and dedication of the people around him.

Professional Journey

Stephen’s professional journey began in software engineering and DevOps, where he developed a strong technical foundation before moving deeper into the data space. Over time, he gained extensive experience with open-source big data technologies, including Hadoop, Spark, and the broader ecosystem surrounding them. That background shaped the way he thinks about data architecture at scale and eventually led him to 7Rivers, where he applies that experience to help clients solve complex modernization challenges.

When it comes to professional achievements, Stephen is most proud of helping organizations realize real value from modernizing legacy technology stacks. In a space filled with noise, he finds purpose in cutting through complexity, enabling teams, and delivering outcomes that can be measured by both capability and business impact.

Looking ahead, Stephen is focused on continued growth. He values the deep experience across the 7Rivers team and sees every day as an opportunity to learn from those around him, sharpen his skills, and keep getting better.

His advice to others aspiring to enter the field is simple: build trust early and often. While technical skills are essential, Stephen believes relationships are what help people succeed over the long term.

Personal Insights and Interests

Outside of work, Stephen enjoys bowhunting, baseball, gaming with his sons, and cooking for and with his wife. Whether he is spending time outdoors, sharing a favorite hobby with his family, or enjoying time in the kitchen, Stephen values the moments that keep him grounded outside of his professional work.

Stephen’s technical depth, collaborative mindset, and commitment to delivering meaningful value make him a strong part of the 7Rivers team. We’re grateful to have him helping clients modernize with clarity, purpose, and a focus on outcomes that matter.
